Sobrato Family

Ask any member of the Sobrato family about their involvement in the community, and the conversation eventually comes back to Ann.

“Although my grandmother was busy in the early 1950s investing in Northern California real estate, she made time to volunteer as a Pink Lady at a Veterans Hospital and became a major benefactor to many local charities,” says granddaughter Lisa Sobrato Sonsini.

“She taught us that we have a responsibility to give back to the community,” says son John A. Sobrato. “In 1996, we created The Sobrato Foundation in order to share the success from our family real estate development business throughout Silicon Valley.”

The Sobrato Foundation started supporting School Health Clinics in 1997 with a grant of $10,000 to underwrite the costs of adding a clinic, and has provided them support over the last nine years totaling $100,000. “In many cases, the health needs of these children would go unmet without School Health Clinics,” Lisa says.

Health care is just one of many issues that the Sobrato family supports through their private foundation, support organization at Community Foundation Silicon Valley, and individual donor-advised funds at CFSV. Their interests are broad and include education, employment training, youth development, human services, housing, mental health, and nonprofit capacity building.

“Our vision is to help create and sustain a vibrant and healthy community where all Silicon Valley residents have equal opportunity to live, work and be enriched,” says John M. Sobrato.
