Lupe Barrera
satellite receptionist and conference coordinator, san jose
Lupe currently serves as the satellite receptionist and conference coordinator for the San José office. Her responsibilities include telephone and guest reception and maintaining and scheduling conference rooms and facilities. She is the key point of contact for various vendors and for those requesting use of the community foundation’s public facilities.
Previously, Lupe was responsible for providing a wide range of high-level administrative support to the vice president of community programs and donor relations of Community Foundation Silicon Valley. Before joining the community foundation, Lupe worked for more than 20 years as an executive assistant and office manager, with the last 13 years in the nonprofit sector.
Born in San Antonio, Texas, Lupe moved to California when she was nine years old. She was the eleventh of 12 children in a migrant family that would travel back and forth between Texas and California to work in the fields.
Lupe has been volunteering since she was a child, starting with collecting money for UNICEF, and she continues to volunteer her time to projects near and dear to her heart. One example is Lupe’s four-year involvement on the steering committee of the Hispanic Foundation’s annual Charity Ball. In her free time, she also enjoys shopping, traveling, coordinating weddings, and spending time with her family. She enjoys living in Silicon Valley, as she feels it is multicultural and has “the best weather anywhere.”
