SARAH VALENCIA
ASSISTANT CONTROLLER

As assistant controller at Silicon Valley Community Foundation, Sarah reports directly to the vice president of finance and assists in the monthly closing process to ensure that financial statements and donor statements are prepared in a timely manner. She supervises the general accounting staff and is responsible for the accuracy of all transactions and confidentiality of information. Sarah joined Community Foundation Silicon Valley in 2005 as the accounting assistant and several months later was promoted to senior accountant.

Sarah was a finance major and holds a Bachelor of Science in commerce from Santa Clara University . She began her career in accounting, when at 17 she began working for her father, helping him run the books for the family business. After graduating in 2003, she decided to explore the nonprofit sector and joined the Saint Francis Foundation as an administrative assistant. While at the Saint Francis Foundation, she discovered how much she enjoyed working in the nonprofit world.

Sarah is a first-generation Bay Area native and lives in San José with her husband, Juan, and her dog, Frolie. In her free time she enjoys shopping, traveling and spending time with her family, friends and dog.
