DONOR ENGAGEMENT OFFICER
(FULL TIME/EXEMPT)

JOB SUMMARY

Created from the merger of Peninsula Community Foundation and Community Foundation Silicon Valley, Silicon Valley Community Foundation brings together the complementary strengths of each parent foundation to create a greater impact than either could realize alone. The new community foundation is committed to serving as a center for philanthropy providing world-class services to donors and nonprofits and inspiring greater civic participation throughout the San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.

Reporting to the vice president of donor engagement, the donor engagement officer is responsible for delivering an exceptional experience to assigned donors and for working closely with the grants & gifts administration, IT and development departments to continuously execute and evaluate the overall donor engagement experience to ensure cutting-edge practices that are consistent with the overall giving strategy of the community foundation. 

Salary range: $75,000-$90,000 commensurate with experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide strategic and tactical planning, implementation and evaluation for assigned donors.
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with assigned fundholders and deliver responsive, effective services to help them meet their philanthropic missions and learn about community needs.
  • Provide grantmaking research, due diligence, site visits, etc., to ensure a world-class experience to every donor.
  • Engage assigned donors in the community foundation’s events, initiatives and activities and actively participate in planning of events to ensure their success.
  • Promote community foundation events and fundraise, as appropriate, for the community foundation’s programs.
  • Serve as the department lead for the development and enhancement of technology-based systems.
  • Develop systems to accomplish the donor engagement and giving division’s goals and work across the community foundation to support the community foundation’s goals, priorities and mission.
  • Work with assigned departments to develop workflows and other processes to ensure streamlined work.
  • As assigned, speak publicly on behalf of the community foundation, and assist/support arrangements for other staff in doing presentations for the community foundation.
  • Lead, manage, and develop direct reports.
  • Assist colleagues in the donor engagement department in their work to develop and deliver philanthropic plans for donors. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, sociology, health, business, English or related discipline.  Master’s degree a plus.
  • Minimum 3+ years experience in donor services or institutional grantmaking. 
  • Excellent information technology skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in development of professional skills/expertise.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, presentation and listening skills for multiple and diverse audiences.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of tax and other legal requirements related to donor advised funds.
  • Excellent people and project management skills, with an ability to work with diverse people in multicultural environments.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills a plus.
  • Ability to approach situations and challenges with a sense of humor.
  • Keen interest in philanthropy and the nonprofit community.
