COMPUTER SUPPORT SPECIALIST
(FULL TIME/Non-EXEMPT)

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the manager of information technology of Silicon Valley Community Foundation, this position is responsible for performing a variety of technical and end-user support duties of routine difficulty, complexity and scope involving the installation, malfunction, maintenance and replacement of standard desktop/laptop computers, peripheral devices and standard software, on Windows platforms.

Salary Range:  $19.23 – $24.04 per hour commensurate with experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Diagnose, identify, troubleshoot and resolves problems, after determining whether problem is system, hardware, software, or end-user related.
  • Assumes responsibility for the care, regular maintenance and cleaning of computer and peripheral equipment.
  • Install, test and operate personal computers, monitors, keyboards, operating systems, software programs, printers and other related peripheral devices.
  • Set up and operate multimedia, video, presentation and conferencing equipment.
  • Conduct on-the-job training and assist users in the proper operation and care of software programs, personal computers and peripheral devices.
  • Document problems relating to hardware, software and setup of prescribed formats, resolving them independently or referring them to immediate supervisor as needed.
  • May diagnose local server, network and VoIP communication and equipment problems.
  • Performs network installation and configuration functions of printers, IP phones and other peripheral devices.
  • May direct the work of or provide guidance to less experienced technical support staff.
  • Serve as primary backup for the manager of information technology.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.    

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two to four years of college or university coursework in computer science, information systems, operating systems, or other related field.
  • Minimum two years experience in technical and systems support including installing and troubleshooting desktop hardware software and related peripheral equipment.
  • Should have well-developed interpersonal skills, service orientation and desire to work as a vital member of the IT team.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with tact, patience and courtesy.
  • Requires occasional travel to offices in San José and San Mateo.
  • May require occasional overtime and working flexible hours.
  • Ability to approach situations and challenges with a sense of humor
