DIRECTOR OF DONOR LEARNING AND CONNECTION
(FULL TIME/EXEMPT)
JOB SUMMARY
Created from the merger of Peninsula Community Foundation and Community Foundation Silicon Valley, Silicon Valley Community Foundation brings together the complementary strengths of each parent foundation to create a greater impact than either could realize alone. The new community foundation is committed to serving as a center for philanthropy providing world-class services to donors and nonprofits and inspiring greater civic participation throughout the San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.
Reporting to the vice president of donor engagement, this individual is responsible for enabling a world-class donor experience through the implementation of learning events, peer networking, giving circles and partnerships with external resources. In addition to working closely with assigned donors, this position also oversees the work of the Philanthropy Incubator by developing outreach strategies to attract and serve individual and institutional funders external to Silicon Valley Community Foundation.
Salary range: $80,000 - $105,000 commensurate with experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop the strategy and plan for inspiring engagement activities consistent with the overall giving strategy of the community foundation.
- Provide strategic and tactical planning, implementation and evaluation of donor and community philanthropist events and engagement activities.
- Coordinate speakers and virtual learning opportunities for fundholders and donor engagement staff.
- Act as liaison to other donor engagement and giving departments to ensure donor engagement and learning opportunities in community foundation priority interest areas, and to other divisions across the community foundation to support the community foundation’s goals, priorities and mission.
- Manage a portfolio of high net worth donors, assisting them with development and implementation of a strategic giving plan.
- Develop and implement programs that regularly connect donors and fundholders to pressing community needs and funding ideas.
- Lead, manage and develop direct reports.
- Attend and participate in appropriate conferences, events, networks and exhibit willingness to be a leader in the field of philanthropy.
- Remain informed on legislative, legal, accounting, investment and technology issues as they affect current and prospective donor engagement grantmaking; advise staff as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in public policy, sociology, health, business, English or related discipline. Master’s degree preferred.
- 5+ years demonstrated experience in donor services and/or grantmaking for community-based organizations and/or foundations.
- Entrepreneurial networking spirit.
- Excellent written and oral communication, presentation and listening skills for multiple and diverse audiences.
- Understanding of adult learning and pedagogy, knowledge management, and staff development practices.
- Excellent group facilitation and one-on-one coaching/mentoring techniques.
- Demonstrated experience with high net worth donor events, and execution of innovative, effective philanthropy services.
- Ability to adapt to new and changing situations.
- Significant knowledge of and experience in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.
- Attention to detail.
- Excellent people and project management skills, with an ability to work with diverse people and groups in multicultural environments.
- Bi-lingual or multi-lingual skills a plus.
- Ability to approach situations and challenges with a sense of humor.
- Keen interest in philanthropy and the non-profit community.
