Gordon Yamate

Yamate joined newspaper publisher Knight Ridder in 2000 and was responsible for company-wide legal affairs until Knight Ridder’s acquisition by McClatchy in 2006. Previously, he was vice president and general counsel at Liberate Technologies, a Silicon Valley firm that developed software to access the Internet through set-top television boxes and other appliances, and was a partner at the law firm of McCutchen, Doyle, Brown and Enersen.

Yamate is vice chair of the board of trustees of the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles and chair of the board of Silicon Valley FACES, formerly known as the Silicon Valley Conference for Community and Justice.

He received his law degree from Santa Clara University and an undergraduate degree in economics and political science from the University of California, Davis.
