Applying for a Grant
Emerging arts organizations in San Mateo and Santa Clara County who meet the eligibility criteria may apply for 2011-2012 Donor Circle for the Arts grants up to $5,000.
All grant applications must be submitted via an online application form.
The online application closes at 5 p.m. on January 31, 2012. Please submit your application well before the deadline to ensure it receives thorough consideration.
Grant Eligibility
The Donor Circle for the Arts Fund seeks to support emerging professional artists and small and medium size organizations (annual expenses below $1,000,000) for whom a small grant of $5,000 or less will make a demonstrable difference. Eligibility requirements are:
- Organizations and individuals requesting support must be in the performing arts (dance, theater, music), literary arts (poetry, literature, storytelling) or the visual, media or design arts.
- The Donor Circle will give special consideration to programs that engage youth as creators and participants and that are carried out in partnership with schools or nonprofit organizations serving out-of-school youth.
- Arts organizations with 501(c)(3) nonprofit status or individuals or groups operating under the fiscal sponsorship of a nonprofit arts organization or public agency are eligible.
- The Donor Circle will award grants only to groups or individuals who plan to perform, exhibit their project or conduct their program in San Mateo County or Santa Clara County.
- Grants may be used for wages, materials, stipends and occasionally acquisition of equipment specific to a project.

The Donor Circle for the Arts Fund provides small grants up to $5,000 each to support emerging artists and arts organizations to expand arts opportunities for the diverse communities of San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties.
The aims of the Donor Circle for the Arts grants are to:
- Increase the availability and affordability of high-quality artistic experiences for residents and communities that do not usually have such access, including youth in under-resourced schools and neighborhoods.
- Increase the creation, performance and exhibition of varied art forms as a means to build cross-cultural understanding within and between communities.
- Provide opportunities for emerging artists to hone their craft and for teaching artists to nurture emerging artists by sharing their talents with others.
