Gloria Rhodes Brown, M.P.A.

Community Leader

Gloria Rhodes Brown is the retired former director of the University of California Cooperative Extension Service for San Mateo and San Francisco counties and coordinator of nutrition and family and consumer science programs in San Mateo and San Francisco. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in home economics with an emphasis in nutrition education from Texas Southern University and a Master of Public Administration from the College of Notre Dame.

Gloria serves on numerous boards and commissions. She is on the leadership advisory council of the American Cancer Society, the Board of Directors of the East Palo Alto Family YMCA and the Board of Trustees of Notre Dame de Namur University. She previously served on the KQED and Mills-Peninsula Health Services boards. She also co-founded the Mills-Peninsula African American Community Health Advisory Committee.

Gloria was inducted into the San Mateo County Women's Hall of Fame; recognized by the University of California Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources with its distinguished service award; received the NFL Community Quarterback award and cited in Mills-Peninsula's annual report as one of their "heroes who has made a difference." Gloria was also named one of KQED's 2008 Black History Month Local Heroes.
