In 2009, the IRS announced the formation of a Global High Wealth Industry group to increase focus on matters related to high net worth taxpayers, as well as to strengthen the rigor of its audit process within this taxpayer segment. The new examination approach, or "enterprise examination," involves a larger team of revenue agents, including specialists in key technical disciplines, as well as an examination of related entities and individuals.

The Global High Wealth Unit audits very wealthy individuals who hold interests in investments and businesses through complex domestic and international structures, including trusts, private trust companies, pooled family investment vehicles, closely held business interests, private foundations and derivative transactions.

Kathy Petronchak, former Chief of Staff at the IRS, will discuss the following issues:

  1. What type of taxpayer is audited by the Global High Wealth Unit.
  2. How the Global High Wealth audits work.
  3. What to expect during these audits.
  4. What practices should be used in managing an examination.
  5. Current IRS initiatives are in place.

This program will also feature remarks by leaders of USF and Silicon Valley Community Foundation.
