Get Involved in the Merrill Lynch Community Charitable Fund ® Program

If you are a Merrill Lynch financial advisor you have an additional resource to share with your clients regarding their charitable giving opportunities. The Merrill Lynch Community Charitable Fund, also referred to MLCCF, is a donor advised fund program that was launched in 2003 which links private clients of Merrill Lynch with a network of community foundations across the United States. Silicon Valley Community Foundation is pleased to participate in this program.

Through the MLCCF program, clients work with their personal financial advisors at Merrill Lynch to select the appropriate investment and management plan for their charitable fund. The charitable gift which establishes the fund, and any additional contributions, become assets of the community foundation and the investments are managed by Merrill Lynch. These clients then work directly with the community foundation to fulfill their grantmaking goals.

The benefits for your client are numerous and include:

  • Simplified charitable giving
  • Elimination of capital gains taxes on donated appreciated securities
  • Access to the community foundation’s expert staff with in-depth knowledge to help develop the client’s charitable giving strategy and goals
  • Access to easy online services
  • Invitations to exclusive educational networking events for community foundation donors

As of December 2008 MLCCF holds 1,234 active funds with assets totaling $185 million. Silicon Valley Community Foundation is first in all MLCCF assets held and has the sixth highest number of MLCCF funds of all 66 participating community foundations nationwide. As you talk with your clients, we hope you will encourage them to open a Merrill Lynch Community Charitable fund with Silicon Valley Community Foundation.
