CORPORATE PARTNERS RECOGNIZED AS TOP CORPORATE PHILANTHROPISTS IN THE REGION
Silicon Valley Community Foundation has the privilege of working with more than 40 corporate advised funds, each of which is doing amazing work to positively impact communities locally, nationally and internationally. These funds combined award more than $36 million in grants annually to a wide range of nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations that are doing important work to support education, health and human services, disaster relief and the environment. The community foundation's business services department was launched in 2008 in an effort to meet emerging needs and provide world class customer service. It assists corporations in achieving their charitable goals through an array of services to facilitate and manage corporate philanthropy.
While 2008 and 2009 have been difficult years financially, many of the community foundation's corporate partners have used this time to demonstrate their leadership and commitment to the community. According to The San Francisco Business Times, many of the Bay Area's largest companies actually increased their charitable donations in 2008 (Corporate givers put their money where the need is, July 24, 2009).
Microsoft Corporation, ranked #15 on The San Francisco Business Times list of Top Corporate Philanthropists, established the Microsoft Unlimited Potential Silicon Valley corporate advised fund at the community foundation in 2001. In 2008 and 2009, the fund awarded more than $500,000 in cash grants and the company gave more than $886,000 in products and services to nonprofit organizations to support workforce development. Through Microsoft's investment, grantees have been able to provide some of our most vulnerable community members with high-quality technology training, career counseling, and job retention skills and support. The community foundation looks forward to an ongoing partnership with Microsoft and all of our outstanding corporate partners.
The San Francisco Business Times recently recognized several of the community foundation's corporate partners at its annual Corporate Philanthropy Summit and Awards. The Silicon Valley / San Jose Business Journal's 2009 Corporate Philanthropy Awards breakfast will take place on Thursday, November 5, 2009 where more of the community foundation's corporate partners are sure to be honored.
"We are extremely proud of the impact our corporate partners are achieving in the community. Their generosity during this difficult financial time is making an incredible difference to so many people in need regionally, nationally and globally." said Catherine Gowen, senior director of business services.
