CHANGES AND ADDITIONS TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Kicking off the new year, Silicon Valley Community Foundation announced Patricia Bresee as its newly appointed board chair. Additionally, Thomas J. Friel and Ivonne Montes de Oca have joined  the board of directors.

Bresee, a former Superior Court Commissioner in San Mateo County and an expert in juvenile law who has devoted most of her professional life to children's issues, was vice-chair in 2007.  She succeeds Gregory Avis, founding managing partner of Summit Partners and the first community foundation’s first chair. This leadership transition is in agreement with the terms of the memorandum of understanding that accompanied the merger that created the community foundation.

Friel is former chairman of Heidrick & Struggles International Inc., and Montes de Oca is president and founder of The Pinnacle Company, a marketing communications group.
