We did it!
W
ith your generous and very timely response to Silicon Valley Community Foundation’s Safety Net Fund challenge,
we exceeded our goal of raising $1 million from donors like you, and $3 million in grants have been awarded to
people in our community who needed our help with food and housing this winter.
By Dec. 31, the Safety Net Fund had raised $1.7 million from current donors, community members,
staff, other funders and community foundation board members. The community foundation committed $1 million in September
to the fund as part of its grantmaking strategies. In addition, the community foundation matched the first $1
million in donations made to the fund.
Our community is a better place for having people like you, who rise to the challenge and help when times are tough.
In less than two months, the Safety Net Fund received more than 200 gifts. Many people
increased their previous gifts and many people made their first gift to this fund.
Grants ranging from $10,272 to $300,000 were made in December to 47 safety net organizations
in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. Some of the grant recipients include
Second Harvest Food Bank,
Shelter Network,
The Health Trust's Meals on Wheels programs
and St. Joseph's Family Center. Any money remaining in the fund will be
awarded to safety net organizations this year. (Complete list of Grantees).
On December 5, we held a Food and Shelter Summit for CEOs and board members of these nonprofits to discuss public
policy solutions to this crisis and the development of a shared agenda. We will continue our work in this area.
Your participation in our appeal for this fund is so appreciated and will help so many who are in need.
