SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS:
2009 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS ARE NOW AVAILABLE!
APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR MOST COMMUNITY FOUNDATION MANAGED SCHOLARSHIPS IS FEB. 26, 2009
Silicon Valley Community Foundation administers a variety of scholarship programs.
The majority are designated for current or former residents of San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.
Community foundation managed scholarship funds are recommended for individual donors who want community
foundation staff to administer the application and selection process. The community foundation appoints a
volunteer selection committee and conducts the scholarship selection and award process.
Scholarships administered by the community foundation cover a wide range of eligibility criteria such as
outstanding grades, community involvement, academic potential and specific school. In spring 2008, the
community foundation awarded over $278,000 to 104 amazing students!
The community foundation also works with private donors who want to be directly involved in the application
and selection process. For these donors, the community foundation offers donor involved scholarship funds.
The donor oversees an external selection committee and the scholarship selection process, as approved by the
community foundation.
Combined, both community foundation and donor involved scholarship programs awarded over $600,000 in scholarships in 2008!
All scholarships have been established by generous local individuals, corporations or organizations to assist
students with their educational pursuits. Whether honoring loved ones or providing for a specific community,
each scholarship expresses a deep belief in the power of education to help young people achieve their dreams.
