HP LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE

Today’s nonprofit sector faces challenges in recruiting and retaining top talent to manage their organizations and realize their missions. Many nonprofit executive directors enter their positions without prior CEO experience and must learn to manage the complexities of a nonprofit organization for the first time. With the sector facing the imminent turnover of many long-time executives, Hewlett Packard joined with the foundation and other supporting funders to offer a program that provides a new generation of talent with peer learning and support in order to successfully assume these new leadership positions.

How it Works

Now in its second and final year, the Nonprofit Leadership Initiative links the wealth of experience and knowledge from veteran nonprofit leaders and board members with emerging, less experienced nonprofit individuals. This is accomplished through conferences, one-on-one meetings and attendance at “target-topic” workshops.

Each year, the initiative has worked with four distinct cohort groups of nonprofit leaders: seasoned executive directors, new and emerging executive directors, seasoned board chairs, and board chair-elects. To date, over 50 leaders from different agencies have participated.

The Hewlett Packard Nonprofit Leadership Initiative will sunset in June 2007. For more information, contact southbaygrants@siliconvalleycf.org .
