Initiative Officer, Envision Bay Area
(Flexible Part Time / Exempt)

JOB SUMMARY

Created from the merger of Peninsula Community Foundation and Community Foundation Silicon Valley, Silicon Valley Community Foundation brings together the complementary strengths of each parent foundation to create a greater impact than either could realize alone. As a result, Silicon Valley Community Foundation has emerged as a center for philanthropy providing world-class services to donors and nonprofits and inspiring greater civic participation throughout the San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.

Reporting to the Vice President, Community Leadership, the Initiative Officer is responsible for managing the Envision Bay Area initiative. The initiative is designed to engage stakeholders and residents in local land-use planning and regional transportation decisions using news media, simulation tools and community dialogue. These decisions will impact greenhouse gas emissions, quality of community life and social equity.

Salary range: $37,500 - $42,500 based on a flexible 20-hour workweek, salary commensurate with experience.

The position is externally funded as the result of a grant the community foundation received. The expected employment term for this position is two years, with a possibility of extension.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with staff across departments to accomplish Giving Division’s goals and across divisions to accomplish the community foundation’s priorities, goals and mission.
  • Develop yearly memoranda of understanding and work plans with initiative partners.
  • Oversee program design, implementation and evaluation in consultation with initiative’s executive team.
  • Prepare reports to investors, documenting progress toward objectives and milestones.
  • Oversee initiative budget and funding streams; seek new funds through proposals and grant writing.
  • Schedule and facilitate meetings of nonprofits and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Promote initiative through presentations, conferences and publications.
  • Promote an atmosphere of teamwork, enthusiasm and commitment.
  • Manage evaluation process for the initiative.
  • Design and manage an information campaign.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least three years of senior project management experience in the nonprofit sector. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Experience with land-use planning, transit-oriented development, greenhouse gas emission control and or communications strongly desired.
  • Strong facilitation, public speaking and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Effective delegation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, characterized by an ability to work with diverse people and groups in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Ability to adapt to new and changing situations.
  • Ability to approach situations and challenges with a sense of humor.
  • History of successful grant seeking is a plus.
