Temporary Web Content and Design Specialist

JOB SUMMARY

Created from the merger of Peninsula Community Foundation and Community Foundation Silicon Valley, Silicon Valley Community Foundation brings together the complementary strengths of each foundation to create a greater impact. As a result, the community foundation emerged as a center for philanthropy providing world-class services to donors and nonprofits and inspiring greater civic participation throughout the San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.

Silicon Valley Community Foundation is seeking a temporary web associate able to work up to 20 hours per week to maintain and enhance the community foundation’s online presence. Under the direction of the vice president of marketing and communications, the web associate will implement the department’s communication objectives online, working closely with the creative director and other members of the team to update the community foundation’s website and social networks on a regular and scheduled basis, develop new features and content, and maintain a social networking presence.

The ideal candidate will be someone experienced in website design and content development who is knowledgeable and passionate about online communications and marketing. The candidate must be well organized, flexible and creative with the ability to interact with staff at all levels and clients in a fast-paced environment with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Must have excellent design skills, understanding of online marketing and communications, the ability to produce brief content and headlines, and be attentive to detail.

Primary duties include: maintaining and enhancing community foundation websites, developing a schedule for website content and design updates, maintaining and enhancing community foundation’s Facebook presence and YouTube channel, and developing additional social networking sites as needed.

Salary range: $18-$21 per hour. (Approximately $37,440- $43,680 annually, based on a 40-hour workweek) Wage to commensurate with experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and enhance community foundation website.
  • Develop a schedule for website updates and new content, working with other members of marketing team and community foundation.
  • Post relevant items to Facebook, writing brief content and headlines.
  • Post relevant videos to YouTube channel.
  • Propose enhancements and additions to community foundations online communications.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of three years experience as a web designer
  • Expert HTML and CSS skills (hand-coded)
  • Experienced at writing and copy editing web content.
  • Must be fluent in Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.
  • Solid understanding of design principles (typography, color, layout, proportion, motion) and web technologies, standards and accessibility.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Web 2.0, social networking and SEO.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects and adjust to shifting priorities.
  • Excellent project and time management skills.
  • Prior experience with email development and deployment desired.
  • College degree (BA or BS) preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
  • Ability and desire to work in a team environment and with diverse groups of people.
  • Proven ability to organize, use good judgment, prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.
  • Knowledge of philanthropy and nonprofit community and an interest in promoting philanthropy in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties a plus.
  • Ability to approach situations and challenges with flexibility and a sense of humor.
  • Experience with Flash and open-source CMS a plus.
