COMMUNITY FOUNDATION NAMES VICE PRESIDENT OF MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS

MOUNTAIN VIEW — Silicon Valley Community Foundation, a philanthropic leader and financial steward of charitable assets, announced that it has appointed Rebecca Salner as vice president of marketing and communications.

Salner joined the community foundation in 2008 as its media relations officer and will continue to be the primary media contact in her new role.

“We are extremely pleased to have someone with Rebecca’s deep experience and understanding of the media, public relations and branding issues leading our communications and outreach efforts,” said Emmett D. Carson, CEO and president of the community foundation. “We have no doubt that the energy, enthusiasm and high-quality work that she has brought to our media relations work will enable her to build on and further our multi-layered, award-winning communications efforts with donors, nonprofit organizations, corporate partners and government agencies.”

Prior to joining the community foundation, Salner spent more than 20 years as a reporter, editor and manager at Bay Area newspapers. Most recently, she was assistant managing editor for business and technology news at the San Jose Mercury News.

Over the years, she was responsible for projects and investigations at the Mercury News and served as the food editor and city editor. Rebecca began her journalism career as a reporter at the San Francisco Examiner, where she covered criminal justice and regional issues on the Peninsula.

“I am extremely pleased to have the opportunity to help market the work of the community foundation and its many partners,” said Salner. “This new role offers me the chance to give back and to make a difference.”
