COMMUNITY FOUNDATION APPOINTS NEW SENIOR DIRECTOR

MOUNTAIN VIEW - Silicon Valley Community Foundation today announced that it has appointed Kia Sullivan as senior director, grants, gifts and compliance.

In her new role, Sullivan oversees the grants and gifts administration department, which works with donors, grantees and staff at the community foundation to ensure efficiency in all transactions and compliance with state and federal regulations regarding grants, charitable contributions and fund management.

Sullivan, who holds a law degree from Santa Clara University, joined the community foundation as a member of its donor engagement department, where she helped coordinate the work and administration of supporting organizations and helped donors with all aspects of philanthropy.

“Kia has the perfect set of skills for her new role and we are delighted to have someone with her depth of knowledge and expertise managing grants and gifts administration,” said Vera Bennett, chief financial officer of the community foundation. “We distributed more than $291 million in grants last year, an average of 200 grants per week. Kia’s legal background coupled with her knowledge of the donor experience will ensure that we provide the kind of guidance and compliance that is essential in grants and transactions of all types.”

Before joining the community foundation, Sullivan worked as a family law attorney in Santa Clara County. She also worked with the Santa Clara County Family Court Free Clinic, the county public defender’s juvenile division, and the East San Jose Community Law Center. She has served on the boards of Santa Clara County Legal Aid Society and the Youth Science Institute.

Kia has a bachelor of arts in communications from UC San Diego and graduated from Santa Clara University’s law school as a public interest scholar.
