Two New Members Join Community Foundation Board
MOUNTAIN VIEW — Retired San Mateo County school superintendent
Samuel Johnson Jr.
and Robert A. Keller
of JP Morgan have joined the board of directors of Silicon Valley Community Foundation.
Johnson, who spent more than four decades in secondary education, is the former
superintendent of the San Mateo Union High School District. He began his career as a mathematics teacher
and over the years served the district as a principal, personnel director and associate superintendent of
human relations and administrative services. Under his leadership and with voter approval, the district
in 2006 received $298 million through Measure M to finance new construction and modernization.
Johnson has received numerous awards and recognition for his leadership and service
to students. He has served on the boards of the San Mateo YMCA, the Mid-Peninsula Boys and Girls Club and
United Way and currently is chairman of the Provident Credit Union Board of Directors.
Keller is a managing director in JPMorgan’s San Francisco office. Prior to joining
JP Morgan, he had been a general partner of Rosewood Capital in San Francisco and an investment banker
at Hambrecht & Quist, where he was head of the Internet investment banking group from 1995-2000.
Keller serves as vice chair of the Board of Directors of the Children’s Health Council
in Palo Alto and is a member of the executive committee, finance committee and chair of the investment
committee. He also serves on the board of the Hillsborough Schools Foundation.
"We are pleased that both Samuel and Robert have agreed to join the board," said
Nancy H. Handel, chair of the community foundation's
Board of Directors. "With Samuel’s expertise in education and Robert’s financial and investment experience,
we are getting additional depth of knowledge in two areas that are critical to our core work."
Johnson holds a bachelor’s degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge and a
master’s degree from Stanford University, both in mathematics.
Keller, who grew up in New York City, received his bachelor’s degree in economics
from Tufts University and his MBA from Harvard University.
