Search continues for new SVCF chief executive

To the SVCF community,
We are making great progress on our search for a new CEO and wanted to share the latest update with you.  We are very excited about the quality and interest of the candidates who have come forward. They are experienced, passionate, dedicated servant-leaders of high integrity and strong character. We appreciate the input we have received from many of you as we have moved through the process. 
We have been working hard over the last several months to identify and meet with candidates.  We have met with leaders who have diverse experiences and backgrounds. All of them care very much about SVCF and our local community, are very interested in the role and excited about the impact the organization is having now and can achieve in the future. They have a history of collaborating across the communities they have worked. Importantly, they value the importance of creating a vibrant and supportive workplace. They have been very interested and pleased to hear about the healthy changes that the staff has been making to our SVCF workplace and look forward to actively supporting the team in continuing that process. 
Thank you for your patience in this process. We have heard from many of you not to rush the search – to be thoughtful, follow a good process and make sure that we find the best possible leader for the role. We are taking the time to vet candidates in terms of their ability in leading a complex and multi-faceted organization, and also their fit for us in terms of leadership, culture and collaboration. As we do, the candidates see this role as a tremendous opportunity to drive community impact, collaborate with our stakeholders and continue to shape the important policy debates before us.
Again, we want to thank SVCF’s employees, donors, grantees and partners, for the tremendous outpouring of support, input for the search and your ongoing partnership. We have benefited from your wisdom and perspective throughout the process, and it has informed our approach, our conversations with candidates, and our ongoing deliberations. The CEO search committee continues to conduct interviews with candidates for our new chief executive. The committee has been pleased with the quality of the candidates and the breadth of experience they possess. We would like to thank our greater community, including our staff, donors, and partners, for their input and ongoing support of the process. The committee will continue to provide further updates as the search and selection process continues.

The CEO search committee conducted an initial round of interviews with candidates during the week of August 13. The interview process will continue into September. The search committee is committed to a thorough, thoughtful process, and will post any further updates here as the search continues.

Silicon Valley Community Foundation’s board of directors has begun its search for a new chief executive for the organization. As announced on June 27, the board has hired national search firm Spencer Stuart to conduct a nationwide search for a new, full-time president and CEO of SVCF.

During the search, Greg Avis will continue in his role as interim president and CEO.

The job specifications related to this position were developed with input from SVCF employees, board members, community partners and donors. To read the full position and candidate specification document prepared by SVCF and Spencer Stuart, please click here.

SVCF’s board and Spencer Stuart will continue to seek input about the desired attributes of the new chief executive during this process. The board and the search firm will conduct outreach efforts; in addition, anyone may submit confidential comments and nominations to Spencer Stuart via email (see below).
