Despite Silicon Valley's innovation and prosperity, many of the region's low- and middle-income residents face serious struggles due to increasing costs of housing and transportation.
SVCF's grantmaking strategy, Building Strong Communities, works to address these pressing housing and transportation issues in our region. In alignment with this strategy, SVCF is encouraging people to watch a new film, commissioned by SVCF and a donor, that shows how real families are dealing with affordable housing issues.
This documentary, by award-winning filmmaker Elizabeth Lo, focuses on the situation of the 400 residents of Buena Vista Mobile Home Park, in Palo Alto, California - located just five minutes from Stanford University’s main campus. The Buena Vista Mobile Home Park is under threat of being closed as its land is currently worth millions in Silicon Valley’s skyrocketing real estate market.
The film reveals what's at stake for the community if these families are forced out. The documentary will be premiered on May 17 and 18 as part of SV@Home’s Affordable Housing Week. At both events, the film screening will be followed by an interactive panel discussion with local elected officials, residents and city staff, moderated by SVCF.
