Starting Monday, July 31, SVCF will accept proposals for a new grant opportunity: Nonprofits, public sector agencies and research institutions in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties are invited to apply to receive $100,000 in funding for initiatives that support civic engagement through the creative or innovative use of technology.

Two grants of $100,000 each will be awarded as part of a special one-time grantmaking initiative in honor of SVCF's 10th anniversary.

Proposals will be accepted online from July 31 to Aug. 25. The application period ends promptly at 11:59 p.m. PST on Aug. 25.

Project criteria

This grant opportunity supports ideas that harness new technologies and methods to overcome the barriers to civic participation and spur increased individual engagement in the wide range of civic activities that keep our democracy strong, from volunteerism to organizational involvement to electoral participation.

From open data portals to apps that solve public problems, the possibilities are endless — and secondary benefits such as more responsive government, innovative public-private partnerships, cost savings or new, exciting services abound.

We encourage applicants to imagine what might be possible, share one of their new and innovative ideas with us, and explain how SVCF funds could help them apply that idea.
