Silicon Valley: We want to hear from you during ‘On the Table’

If you live in Silicon Valley, you’re affected by the housing crisis.

Whether it’s paying high rent, living with roommates, commuting long distances in heavy traffic, or even struggling to find any housing option at all – the lack of affordable housing impacts everyone.

It’s time to take action. We need to get together to talk about the reality of the situation, and possible solutions for improving it. While we’re at it, why not have a bite to eat?

That’s exactly what we’re hoping you’ll do on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017, as part of our Silicon Valley-wide event, “On the Table.” Throughout the day, we’re encouraging individuals and organizations to host small-group discussions about the housing crisis with friends and neighbors over food and drinks.

On the Table

Similar On the Table events are happening in cities across the country, strengthening communities and brining people together. We want to do the same in Silicon Valley, and also use the ideas generated during the event to inform how we tackle the housing crisis. SVCF convenes advocates, organizations, government officials and other stakeholders to collaborate on regional solutions, and the housing crisis is an unprecedented situation that needs collective action – informed by you!

So let’s get together and put it all on the table – our shared frustrations about housing, along with our ideas for making it better.

Get involved – host a conversation!

There are ways to host a discussion for On the Table:

  1. Individuals, nonprofits and companies are welcome to host a private event at a location of their choice, and invite their own guests

  2. Nonprofits and companies may apply to host an event that’s open to the public – SVCF will provide some extra support for these events, including listing the event on our website so that members of the public can find it and RSVP.

All hosts are expected to facilitate a conversation about housing with their guests, and get their guests to complete our survey after the event.

Conversations are always better with food, right? As a host, we ask that you provide snacks or a meal – whatever is most appropriate for your group and setting. It could be light appetizers, coffee and desserts, beer and pizza, a picnic, breakfast, lunch or dinner at a restaurant, etc. It’s up to you!

Make your voice heard

If you don’t want to host, but want to attend a conversation, we’d love to connect you to an organization hosting a public conversation. Later this fall, we’ll be listing public conversations On the Table on our website: siliconvalleycf.org/onthetable

If you have any questions, please email us at onthetable@siliconvalleycf.org. We also encourage you to stay up to date on On the Table news and information on Twitter at @siliconvalleycf.org or #onthetablesv
