Sheri Sobrato Brisson comes from a family of philanthropists. The Silicon Valley family started a private foundation, the Sobrato Family Foundation, 20 years ago. But over the years, Sheri (pictured at right) and her siblings have also wanted to individually fund initiatives they’re each passionate about.
“In addition to supporting other nonprofits," Sheri said, "I wanted to realize my own philanthropic vision through the creation of a project aimed at supporting the emotional needs of seriously and chronically ill children and their families.
“It started with the publication of a philanthropically distributed book I co-authored with Rose Offner, MFA, called 'Digging Deep: A Journal for Young People Facing Health Challenges,' which has evolved into a project that supports young people, their families and the professionals who work with them.”
Sheri was inspired by her own 25th anniversary of survivorship from a serious malignant brain tumor. She wanted to get right to work helping children and families, without having to jump through all the hoops of setting up her own foundation, so she turned to SVCF.
“[SVCF] offers legal guidance, back office support, encouragement and hand-holding every step of the way,” Sheri said. “They allow me to focus my time and energy on utilizing my skills and gifts to develop products and programs that reach out to those in need. I would not have been able to realize my philanthropic dream without them.”
