Focusing on affordable housing solutions in the Bay Area
Silicon Valley is experiencing a housing crisis of epic proportions. The Donor Circle for Housing is a group of philanthropists committed to addressing our region's housing challenges by promoting and investing in policy, advocacy and civic engagement. In particular, the donor circle has decided to focus on housing preservation, tenant rights, rent control and homelessness through the creation of affordable housing.
Donor circle meetings occur on a bimonthly basis at SVCF's Mountain View office throughout the fall, winter and spring. These meetings are used to facilitate conversations with nonprofits organizations, educational institutions, government and policy leaders and affordable housing champions. The group also attends external events, tours local nonprofits and visits affordable housing developments to learn about challenges and solutions. Annually in the spring, nonprofits submit grant proposals that are reviewed by donor circle members, who then vote on which organizations will receive funding.
The Donor Circle for Housing is open to all current SVCF fund holders. Minimum annual dues are $1,500, which go to nonprofit organizations selected by the donor circle. Membership in the donor circle offers:
- An opportunity to learn from local experts and strategists about this complex issue
- Increased philanthropic impact by pooling resources with other passionate donors
- Participation in the selection of housing organization grantees
We invite interested fund holders to join a meeting at any time to learn more. If you're interested in joining the donor circle or attending a meeting, please email donorcircleforhousing@siliconvalleycf.org. Non-members are also welcome to donate to the donor circle, to help ensure that San Mateo and Santa Clara counties are somewhere everyone can call home.
