Officer, Public Policy
Pete Weldy serves as policy manager for the Center for Early Learning at SVCF. In this position Pete focuses on building strategic relationships with external partners including business, labor, government and nonprofits to galvanize support for expanding high-quality early learning experiences for children. He also leads the Center’s "Choose Children 2018" initiative which seeks to make early childhood policies and investments a top priority for California's next governor.
Prior to joining SVCF, Pete served as the director of policy and research at the Indiana Department of Education where he led the department’s efforts to expand preschool programs around the state. He also worked for Indiana’s House Minority Leader and Superintendent of Public Instruction. Pete is a former teacher and received his Bachelor of Arts (cum laude) in music from Butler University in Indianapolis.
Pete is a passionate advocate for education policies that ensure equal access to a high-quality, free public education that fosters lifelong learning and global civic engagement. He is also an avid college basketball fan, opera nerd, aspiring auto journalist, father of two young felines, and fiancé to a cool artist named Karla.
